We have a rose bush with white flowers. Sprouts from the roots produce red flowers. Expain the genetics?

Many rose and fruit trees are done by grafting the wantd type on a strong root. Occasionally the root comes on strong or the whole plant goes wild. The red is probably a smaller single flower and the white a larger fuller flower. I have several roses that were good ones that have gone wild.

Your rose is a graft or scion selected for its white flowers .

The sturdy root stock is of red rose .

You have allowed shoots to develop from the root stock. these are called suckers. ( Generally it is not done . The branches from the root stock or suckers are nipped in bud to allow the graft or the scion to grow healthy).
